Undergraduate Research Symposium
Winter Term

The ChE Undergraduate Research Symposium showcases the work of chemical engineering undergraduate students involved in research.

The event is held annually during the winter term and is open to all members of the U-M ChE community.

The Walter J. Weber, Jr. Distinguished Lecture in Environmental and Energy Sustainability
Fall Term

This lecture series brings one of the world’s foremost experts in environmental engineering and science to campus each year to share the results of their work and their vision for the future.

This seminar is made possible through the endowment to the University by the 1996 Athalie Richardson Irvine Clark Prize awarded to Professor Walter J. Weber, Jr. by the National Water Research Institute for Outstanding Accomplishments in Water Science and Technology.

During his 46-year career at the University of Michigan, Dr. Weber made numerous significant contributions to the field of environmental engineering as a scientist, educator, and mentor. In 2008, he was chosen as one of the “One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era” by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in honor of his many career accomplishments.

Donald L. Katz Lectureship in Chemical Engineering

The lectureship is named in honor of the late Donald L. Katz who was a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan for many years. Dr. Katz was an inspiring teacher, outstanding leader, and imaginative investigator in the field of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Technology. He was a recipient of 24 national and international awards for his technical achievements and public and professional service, including election to the National Academy of Engineering and a citation and award of the National Medal of Science by President Reagan in 1983.

Blue/Green Seminar (Joint Seminar between U-M and Michigan State University)

Inaugurated in Winter 1982, Blue/Green is a joint lecture series between the chemical engineering departments at U-M and Michigan State University.
