Minors, Concentrations and Specialized Studies

A number of our students choose to make use of their elective courses to personalize their studies in a given area.

Minors

Minors are offered by various departments and colleges across the University, and are available to all students in the college of engineering. These can be used to prepare for a specific career area, or to expand your background in an area of personal interest.

Visit the minors bulletin or learn more from the College.

Concentrations

Concentrations are available only within a specific degree program, and they allow you to get more detailed background in a particular field. Current ChE concentrations (12 credits) include:

  • BioPharmaceutical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Energy Systems Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Life Sciences
  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Petroleum and Gas Exploration

View our concentration requirements for more information. It’s a great resource if you are seeking relevant courses in those areas even if you don’t plan to complete a concentration.

Specialized Studies (9 credits)

These are 9 credit “mini-minors” that give you exposure to fields such as sustainability and entrepreneurship.

Sustainability

There are many ways in which you can personalize your curriculum to incorporate a sustainability perspective.
