Joerg Lahann named collegiate professor

Joerg Lahann was appointed the Wolfgang Pauli Collegiate Professor of Chemical Engineering and was honored at a ceremony on October 9, 2019, where he delivered a lecture on “Materials, Surfaces, and Converging Interfaces.”
Sharon Glotzer, Anthony C. Lembke Department Chair of Chemical Engineering and Nick Kotov, Joseph B. and Florence V. Cejka Professor of Chemical Engineering, spoke at the ceremony, along with two of Lahann’s graduate students, Nahal Habibi and Ayşe Muñiz. Ron Larson, George Granger Brown Professor, addressed the audience via a video recording. Alec D. Gallimore, Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering, concluded the program and presented Lahann with his medal and chair.
Joerg Lahann joined the Department of Chemical Engineering in 2003 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2008 and professor in 2012. Since 2012, Lahann has served as the founding director of the U-M Biointerfaces Institute, an unconventional research home to 27 research groups comprised of more than 350 high-profile scientists in engineering, the physical sciences and medicine.
Wolfgang Pauli, a Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1945, was a visiting professor at the University of Michigan in 1931 and 1941.
