Rebecca Lindsey receives Computational Molecular Science and Engineering Forum Young Investigator Award

The AIChE CoMSEF Young Investigator Award recognizes outstanding research in computational molecular science and engineering, encompassing both methods and applications.

Rebecca Lindsey, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering has been announced as the recipient of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) 2023 Computational Molecular Science and Engineering Forum (CoMSEF) Young Investigator Award. The CoMSEF Young Investigator Award recognizes outstanding research in computational molecular science and engineering, encompassing both methods and applications.

“I am honored to receive the AIChE CoMSEF Young Investigator award, particularly due to the critical role this community has served in my professional and scientific development,” Lindsey said. “Being included in the distinguished list of previous awardees, who have conducted remarkable research, is truly humbling.”

Rebecca Lindsey
Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering

Lindsey joined the department of Chemical Engineering in the fall of 2023 as an assistant professor. Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Lindsey led various research teams within the Energetic Materials Center at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her work in simulation and machine learning for materials, for which applications have spanned sorption in soft materials, possible mechanisms for the origins of life, detonation synthesis of unusual carbon nanoparticles, and more, has been underpinned by a strong interest in developing tools enabling work in previously inaccessible problem spaces.

Her current research develops and applies new artificial intelligence-driven simulation and inference tools for a variety of applications including nanomaterials discovery, energy materials design and detonation science.

The CoMSEF award will be presented at the AIChE Annual Meeting this fall where Lindsey will give an invited talk within the CoMSEF Plenary session.
