Lola Eniola-Adefeso President-Elect of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering
As AIMBE President, Eniola-Adefeso will advocate for action on pressing issues at the intersection of medicine and engineering.
Lola Eniola-Adefeso, University of Michigan Diversity and Social Transformation Professor of Chemical Engineering, has been named as the President-Elect of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).
AIMBE is a non-profit organization representing the most accomplished individuals in the fields of medical and biological engineering.
“I am deeply honored to have been elected as the President-Elect of AIMBE,” Eniola-Adefeso said. “It is truly humbling to have been chosen by such a prestigious organization, representing the most accomplished individuals in medical and biological engineering.”
AIMBE fellows elected Eniola-Adefeso after she completed a two-year term as director-at-large on the AIMBE Board of Directors. After a year as President-Elect, Eniola-Adefeso will spend two years as President of AIMBE advocating for action on pressing issues facing research and researchers at the intersection of medicine and engineering.

Eniola-Adefeso’s contributions to the field have been recognized by many organizations and her research is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the Leducq Foundation and the National Science Foundation.
In addition to her new role as President-Elect of AIMBE, Eniola-Adefeso was recently named a National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Senior Member and elected as a fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) conferred by the Council on Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD). This prestigious fellowship recognizes and awards premium professional members for excellence, innovative and sustained contributions in the areas of scholarship, practice, education and volunteer service within the American Heart Association.
Other recent notable awards include the AIChE Minority Affairs Committee’s (MAC) Grimes Award for Excellence in Chemical Engineering and a Biomedical Engineering Society mid-career award.
Eniola-Adefeso earned a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the University of Michigan in 2006 and has been recognized for her commitments to scholarly inquiry related to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, equitable education and mentoring, as well as impactful service and engagement.
