Introduction and summary

A sequential undergraduate/graduate study (SUGS) program is offered through the Integrative Systems + Design (ISD) Division, Master of Engineering in Manufacturing (M. Eng. in Mfg.) program.

 You can pursue your ISD SUGS degree online or on-campus! 

Visit the ISD SUGS site for detailed information regarding SUGS Requirements. 

  • Early in your junior year, meet with your undergrad advisor and ISD graduate coordinator to confirm your eligibility. 
  • Visit the ISD SUGS site to download and complete a preliminary SUGS Election form. 
  • In your senior year, apply to Manufacturing and begin your program the following Winter or Fall semester. 

Master of Engineering in Manufacturing 

Degree Objectives 

BECOME AN INNOVATOR IN TECHNOLOGY AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT 

Manufacturing is a bedrock of a strong economy, supporting a solid employment base in the manufacturing industry as well as in multiple related service industries. Now, more than ever, there is a critical need for leaders and engineers who are innovators in technology and have the broad knowledge and skills on how to streamline manufacturing processes and make the managerial decisions. 

Students in this program acquire the advanced engineering and management skills to become a dynamic leader in manufacturing. Students learn how to improve the quality and efficiency of manufacturing systems through advanced technologies and skills in their engineering discipline, acquiring breadth across disciplines, leading project teams, and understanding the complete product development and manufacturing process, including its management. 

Four concentrations are offered: 

  • Production systems and quality engineering 
  • Manufacturing design and sustainability 
  • Advanced materials design and manufacturing (nano/digital/additive) 
  • Safety, health and ecology 

Overview 

The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Manufacturing is a graduate professional degree that includes selecting from over 80 courses offered through various departments in the College of Engineering and the Stephen M. Ross School of Business (70% engineering and 30% business). It can be earned in one calendar year, including a four-month team project in industry. This program is available on campus and online. The program is for students who have already earned a BSE degree in any field of engineering (e.g., aerospace, mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial, naval, chemical, materials science), and who have relevant industrial experience. 

Summary of M. Eng. in Mfg. Curriculum Distribution 

The incoming student must obtain the approval of the course advisor for the planned M. Eng. in Mfg. degree courses selected. A course advisor will be assigned to the student upon admission.
